Principal

Jim is a recognized expert in the field of corrections design. He has been the architect for more than 150 correctional building programs.  Jim's projects reflect optimum efficiency for clients through responsible programming and sound building design practices.  Jim’s philosophy incorporates consideration of both tangible and intangible concepts and processes throughout design and construction which yield sound design solutions with reasonable associated costs.  Jim effectively manages these options to obtain optimum results for his clients.

Bruce Smith, AIA

Principal

Bruce's work is diversified and includes educational, multi-family housing, health care, retail, mixed-use, church, retail, and commercial projects.  He has worked with Federal, State, and private sector clients.  Bruce is highly knowledgeable in code compliance and in finding solutions to technical problems. He is S8d's in-house expert relative to code issues and provides oversight of quality control reviews.

Principal

Robert is Studio 8 Design's primary manager for affordable housing projects.  He has over 17 years of experience in the  complex process of application for tax credit housing projects.  With his considerable experience and knowledge of the overall application, design, and construction process, he is an expert in the architectural requirements for this project type.  He has been actively involved in the design and construction administration  for the rehabilitation of over 5000 housing units throughout Georgia and the southeastern United States.

Senior Project Manager

Jim works with Federal, State, and private sector clients in the effective management of a diverse range of project types.  He is involved in all areas of project development including schematic designs, design development, construction documents production, building information modeling, bidding, and management of construction administration.  Jim works with clients to develop concepts and strategies for reaching project goals. He has been actively involved in obtaining LEED and Georgia Peach certifications for his projects.

Project Manager

Kevin is an integral member of S8d's Affordable Housing studio. He is actively engaged in the development of plans and designs for the rehabilitation/renovation of multi-family housing projects.  Kevin is also S8d's expert in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and has completed several complex projects using BIM.

Project Manager

Chase has over 20 years of experience in the field of architecture and project management. He has extensive experience in providing on-site construction administration and documentation with projects ranging to over 460,000 square feet.  He is experienced with design-bid-build, design-build, construction management, and single/multiple prime contractors.  He has a thorough understanding of all structural building types, building codes, zoning regulations and approval processes.

Malinda Taylor

Director of Marketing/Project Coordinator

Malinda plays an instrumental role in business development and in the successful procurement of contracts through research, development, and submission of proposals to Federal, State, and private sector clients. Malinda provides technical writing, graphic design, and management of all logistics relative to proposal development. Malinda is also experienced as a Project Coordinator for the development of Physical Master Plans.  She provides research and analysis of information relative to clients’ future building programs including analysis of existing conditions and space needs.

Interior Design

Laura specializes in interior design and space planning. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Her talents are multi-faceted and include interior design, graphic design, and renderings. She frequently develops both exterior and interior concepts allowing clients the opportunity to visually observe and explore options for interior space layout and aesthetic finishes. She also works with clients to select appropriate furniture and equipment. Beyond her interior design talents, Laura is also experienced in landscaping and ornamental horticulture. She can provide landscape design and layouts. Laura is active on the City of Valdosta’s Tree Commission.

Bill is the key construction documents coordinator for all correctional facility projects.  He maintains an ordered and systematic approach to the development of construction documents and interacts with consulting firms to ensure effective coordination and quality control of all correctional projects.

Design Staff

Jernii has worked in the field of affordable housing for over 12 years and is an instrumental member of Studio 8 Design's Affordable Housing Studio.  Jernii has worked extensively in the development of applications for affordable housing projects. She is highly familiar with the application process and design and code requirements for these projects. Jernii is actively involved in assessment, measurement, and documentation of existing conditions, field investigations and reports, and production of construction documents to meet all required design issues for renovation and new construction tax credit projects.

Chad has over 17 years of experience in the field of architectural drafting and design. He is a member of Studio 8 Designs Affordable Housing Studio and is involved in the production of construction documents for multi-family housing projects.

Office Manager

Donna manages all aspects of administrative functions for the firm.  She provides oversight of  needs relative to the effective daily operations of the office. She works in the administrative production of construction documents and in construction administration documentation for projects.

Melissa Glass

Controller

With over 13 years of experience in the A/E/C industry, Melissa joined Studio 8 as the firm’s Controller in early 2016. She has a degree in Accounting, and her work with the firm is focused on accounting, process management, and human resources. Her past experience has involved project accounting, accounting processes, and reconciliation. At Studio 8, she has worked to implement new policies and procedures relative to overall firm management. She works closely with the firm’s owners providing insight and key financial data for business operations. Melissa also provides oversight and management of human resource activities including research and compliance. She is actively engaged in providing maximum efficiency for office operations.
