New Crisis Center, Gateway Behavioral Health, Savannah
SAVANNAH, GA - This new 23,000 SF Crisis Center is a collaborative project between Chatham County, and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. It is designed to be an emergency room type facility for people facing mental health crises.
Officials hope that this Crisis Center will provide an alternative to jail for people who are facing acute mental health issues. The corrections system in Georgia is frequently overwhelmed with individuals with mental health needs; however, no suitable alternatives for providing services existed. This type of facility brings the community the opportunity to address those needs outside of the corrections system.
The facility is designed to accommodate clients in a residential environment with group treatment areas, visitation areas, medical treatment areas, and food service. The exterior aesthetic reflects the coastal location and is similar to the Brunswick location.
