Corrections Design

Our Corrections Studio leader, Jim Ingram, AIA, NCARB, is a recognized expert in the field of corrections design. Jim has been the architect for more than 150 corrections building programs in the last 50 years. His designs follow the American Correctional Association Standards, as well as each State’s specific standards.

The staff of Studio 8 Design has completed corrections projects throughout the Southeast region.

Our programming and design are focused on creating operational efficiency. We specify time-tested methods and materials and state-of-the art building systems which provide solid construction. Significant consideration is given to site lines, and staff required to operate the facility along with durable finishes which are easy to maintain. Further, our projects always include analysis of location and weather requirements particularly those related to coastal weather impacts on building systems and longevity.

Client Testimonials

“Studio 8 focused on the County’s requirements and their ability to maximize population density and design a reasonably priced facility. Their nuts and bolts approach clearly demonstrated a unique level of understanding of ADC design and a broad, as well as extensive, background in delivering such projects at a reasonable cost to the owner. The ultimate design was extremely well thought out, exceeded the initial design criteria and met the County’s budget, which was a concern at the beginning of the project.”
— Dale Jordan, Procurement Director, Cherokee County
For the past eleven years I have worked with Jim Ingram on multiple projects. His knowledge and expertise in the building trades has been invaluable. He has done an excellent job of interpreting our desires and understands the constraints of our budget. He is quick to make recommendations to both improve efficiency and cut cost. I think the thing that I most appreciate about Jim is that he answers the phone when I call and responds promptly to our RFIs. I can heartily recommend him for Architectural services.
— Garry Gable, Sr. Project Engineer, Georgia Department of Corrections
The new facility has a central control unit for staff to be able to observe all inmate movements throughout the facility and to have proximity for both indirect and direct supervision with officers. The entire way the facility is designed lends itself to better security.
— Walt Davis, Warden, Hall County Correctional Institution
I was most impressed with Mr. Ingram’s responsiveness to our needs. He always answered phone calls and emails promptly and was willing to come to the project site for scheduled and unscheduled visits anytime he was needed. His objective was to ensure we were getting the product we wanted. Jim made sure we had all relevant information on the project available to us and he encouraged our input every step of the way. In the end, we have enjoyed overwhelming community support for building such a beautiful, yet secure facility at a reasonable cost.
— Ronald Corbett, Undersheriff Glynn County Sheriff’s Department
When you complete a multi-million dollar project and the Sheriff, the Commissioners, the Contractor, and the Architect are all satisfied with the finished product and are still friends, that is an excellent project.
— William C. Massee, Jr., Sheriff, Baldwin County
